GHMC standing committee meet postponed again
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: When most parts of the city was experiencing heavy showers, inside GHMC it was a day of protests on Tuesday. Yes, it began with the all the Additional Commissioners taking half-a-day leave to avoid attending the Standing Committee meeting presided over by the Mayor.
The committee meeting was advanced by a day in view of the Ganesh immersion procession tomorrow and the agenda too was circulated to everyone. Yet, to the surprise of the members, the Commissioner informed Mayor B. Kartika Reddy that the Additional Commissioners were “busy” with arrangements for the procession, hence they will not be attending.
Thus for the third successive week, the committee meeting has either been postponed or no business transacted.
In the last meeting, a majority of members utilised the forum to criticise the Mayor and berate a couple of senior officials instead of taking up the agenda.
In the meantime, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Mayor, Upender Reddy, landed himself in a soup when an office superintendent, Vijay, accused him of being abusive.
The entire GHMC secretary staff, union leaders and others besieged the Commissioner’s chambers demanding the OSD be “sent back” to the parent Municipal Administration Department.
They gave up the protest only when after Mr. Sharma sought two days time to take a decision.
