GHMC standing panel poll held
All the official candidates of the Congress and
Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), eight and seven corporators
respectively, were elected to the GHMC standing committee in the poll
conducted at the head office on Thursday.
GHMC’s 150
corporators of the council are eligible to participate in the voting and
there were altogether 18 candidates in the fray for the 15-member
panel, including one TD corporator, a BJP corporator and another, a
dummy Congress candidate.
TD corporator Bhanu Prasad
got 67 votes while BJP’s Sahadev got 35 votes indicating that there was
cross-voting in the second preference votes even if it did not affect
the final outcome. The newly-elected members will be part of the
standing committee which is presided over by Mayor Majid Hussain for a
one-year period.
