GHMC to finally start old project
February 28th, 2011
Feb.
27: Ten years after it was first mooted, the Greater Hyderabad
Municipal Corporation is renewing efforts to simplify the numbering of
houses in the city and replacing the existing complicated and lengthy
residential addresses with simple, easy to locate house numbers.
For example, the existing residential address of
1-11-110/2/3/A-C in Tata Chary Colony near Sai Baba Temple in the
Shaymlal Buildings locality of Begumpet mandal and Hyderabad district
(5000016) will be replaced by Plot No. 26, Street No. 2, Begumpet.
The rationalisation of house numbers and addresses is
undoubtedly necessary. However, earlier attempts have failed and
sceptics say this time too, the project will not go beyond installing
boards at street corners with details of the street number and the
number of houses.
“Officials make money on the contract given for purchase
of boards and their installation, and that’s it. For all practical
purposes, the old and existing residential addresses will continue to
hold good for all postal and business transactions besides proof of
residence,” a source said.
Officials in the House Numbering Cell of the GHMC claim
that they will shortly invite tenders for the project in municipal
circle-8 covering areas in and around Abids, Sultan Bazar, Jam Bagh and
Gun Foundry, and circle-9 areas covering Himayatnagar, Barkatpura,
Kachiguda, Golnaka Amberpet, Bagh Amberpet, Vidyanagar, Nallakunta,
Baghlingampally, Adikmet, Ramnagar, Musheerabad, Bholakpur, Gandhinagar,
Kavadiguda and Ashoknagar.
