GHMC to focus on sanitation
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)
Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Monday said he would pay special attention
to improving sanitation facilities in the twin cities.
Speaking
to reporters after the weekly ‘Prajavani’ programme at the head office
where he personally received petitions from the public, the Commissioner
said a lot more needed to be done on the sanitation front in the city.
“It has to improve significantly,” he said. At the same time, roads in the city, too, demand improvement, he conceded and added:
“We need to do much more to improve the road conditions.”
He also stressed the need to simplify processes at the Town Planning wing and make them more user-friendly.
Admitting
that 334 posts needed to be filled in the Town Planning wing, he said
efforts were on to quickly take up the recruitment process. Even the
GHMC workplaces are not in the right shape, and plans are afoot to
improve the situation, Mr. Kumar said.
On the lack of
public toilets on city roads, he said the civic body had a goal of
setting up at least one neat and well-maintained facility every 500
metres.
Commissioner Somesh Kumar receives 36 applications from citizens at the ‘Prajavani’ programme.
