GHMC to improve road connectivity

To cater to the new and emerging areas in the city suburbs, the
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been working to
improve and widen a road network spread over 99 km at a proposed cost of
Rs.550 crore.
As per the project under the JNNURM, a total of 44
roads have been proposed and work on some of the stretches has already
been taken up.
The other stretches are to be initiated soon, but
issues of land acquisition happened to be a major factor in most
instances while the Road Development Plan (RDP) is to be completed in
some other places, according to the officials.
This initiative is
to cover the GHMC circles of Kapra, Uppal, Alwal, Gaddiannaram,
L.B.Nagar, Kukatpally, Ramachandrapuram, Patancheru, Malkajgiri,
Rajendranagar, Serilingampally and Qutbullahpur.
These happen to be the municipalities that merged with erstwhile MCH to become part of the GHMC.
Officials
said part of widening works were done at Golnaka X road to Indira
Gandhi statue and Rajiv Rahadari to West Venkatapuram Railway gate in
Alwal circle, from IBPL petrol bunk to Jagathgiri Gutta bus stop,
Narsapur main road to Suchitra Junction and Suraram X road to
Vishwakarma Weaker Section Society Colony in Qutbullahpur circle.
“Some others like the road widening from Moosapet Cheruvu to railway line via IDL in Kukatpally are going on,” an official said.
At
several places, condition of these roads has been in a pathetic
condition and lack of coordination between different departments such as
R&B, HMWSSB and others gets obvious in the badly carpeted and
maintained stretches. Though the suburbs have emerged as major hubs,
both in terms of commercial and residential growth, the road networks
have failed to catch up with the growth.
“There are issues of
coordination, acquiring required land and addressing encroachments. We
are working and hope to overcome them and ensure proper road networks in
these areas which have been developing at a fast pace,” GHMC
Engineer-in-Chief, R. Dhan Singh said.
