GHMC told to act against encroachers
A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court
directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to take
action upon the persons who encroached the pavements, if necessary by
invoking the provisions of criminal law against them.
It
was dealing with a taken up case upon a letter written by Brig.
Virendera Sarma (Retd.) who complained that pavements are occupied and
pedestrians have no safe passage near the road.
The Bench wanted the GHMC to explain the action being taken against such of the encroachments.
The counsel for GHMC informed that civil cases are being initiated.
The Bench indicated that provision of Land Grabbing Act and Criminal Law are to be invoked if necessary.
Interim suspension of GO166
The
Bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sen Gupta and Justice P.V.
Sanjay Kumar on Monday granted interim suspension of the Government
Order Ms.No. 166 issued in 2008 to facilitate regularisation of
encroachment of government lands.
The Bench was hearing arguments in a writ petition filed by CPI (M) leaders P.S.N Murthy and M. Srinivas.
The
counsel for the petitioners contended that the plots measuring 2,000
sq.yd. in cities like Hyderabad which have been encroached by the rich
and powerful are being regularised.
The Bench
directed the government to furnish the list of the cases where the lands
are regularised and suspended the operation of the G.O.
