Mohali: Only Housefed to get group housing sites on concessional ratesFrom now, private builders or cooperative house building societies will be given given land for building multi-storied group housing projects only through open auctions. The decision was taken in-principle at the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority’s (GMADA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Chandigarh recently.
Only Housefed will get such sites through allotment on reserve or even concessional rates whereas all other cooperative societies will have to bid for getting these sites through open auction.
The GMADA also authorised its chairman to clear to any such allotments at reserve or even concessional rates to Housefed whenever deemed fit. The decision was taken following a demand raised by Housefed seeking allotment of a site for constructing multi-storied group housing flats in GMADA’s much-hyped Aerocity near upcoming airport here.
The policy branch of GMADA apprised the Board of Directors that since there was no provision in the GMADA’s policy to allot sites for construction of multi-storied flats to Central and state government bodies or cooperative house building societies, hence these bodies and societies could participate in open auctions as and when held to sell such sites.
However, Housefed Managing Director told the GMADA Chief Administrator that since Housefed was different from other cooperative societies as it has a transparent system to allot flats through a draw of lots after inviting applications from needy persons, it should not be considered on a par with other cooperative societies and be allowed allotment at reserve and even concessional rates.
However, Housefed’s demand of site in Aerocity as of now has been kept on hold and will be decided once the development at the site begins. Initially, Housefed had demanded 100 acres, which was reduced to 5 acres.
GMADA CA Vivek Partap Singh said 20 per cent of the total 800 acres Aerocity site is kept reserved for commercial, group housing and other allied purposes, Housefed will be also be allotted an appropriate site.
