JAIPUR: BJP has accused the government of meddling with the affairs of elected institutions like urban local bodies (ULB). A BJP leader said the government has issued an order on December 23 and asked the elected boards of the ULBs, including the JMC, to form committees under prescribed conditions, thus to help Congress councillors to get some seats in various committees.

Deputy mayor Manish Pareek claimed, “The Congress has killed the spirit of democracy and now under the garb of regulations issued an illegal order thereby dictating us how to do business. All these high-level involvements have been only to help Congress councillors to get coveted seats in committees despite being in minority.”

Pareek said the mayor and Congress had no choice but to apply dirty tricks. “When we had served the notice to the CEO of JMC to hold meetings at the earliest under Section 51(2) of Municipal Act 2009 after the mayor failed to oblige us, the Congress government issued the order that the constitution of committees shall be held in an ordinary general meeting. We are going to file a writ in the court against this illegal order.”
