The work will be taken up at a cost of Rs. 30 crore: Minister
The State government will take up repair and renovation
work at 10,000 slum board tenements at a cost of Rs 30 crore, Minister
for Housing and Urban Development R. Vaithilingam announced in the
Assembly on Tuesday.
Presenting the demands for
grants for his Department, Mr Vaithilingam said the tenements were
located in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Madurai, Salem, Tirunelveli,
Tuticorin, Erode and Karur districts.
The Housing and
Urban Development department would expand the Composite Local Planning
Areas. It would ensure planned development for the surrounding areas.
Such a plan would help while making a comprehensive project at a later stage, he said.
A
Land Use Information System would be created by the department. Through
the system, one could learn the permissible development that can be
taken up in a plot and related information could be obtained from the
system.
A study on development along the outer ring
road would be taken up on the Vandalur – Minjur road, which stretches
for a distance of 63 km, Mr Vaithilingam said. The multiplication of
vehicles in the city and its suburbs had resulted in increased
congestion. So it was proposed to take up a ‘Multi-modal Transport
Integration Study’.
The study would be taken up by
the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, he said. The department
will provide a grant of Rs 10 lakh to various local bodies in the State
under ‘Park Development’.
A total of 20 parks across the State would be developed under this, he said.
