GRH budget canteen ready for launch

‘Amma Unavagam,’ which provides food items at subsidised
rates, is all set for opening at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH)
here.
As thousands of people visit the hospital every
day, the State government had asked the Corporation authorities to set
up the budget canteen. A building was constructed opposite the
paediatric wing with necessary infrastructure to cater to patients and
the general public.
On Wednesday, Collector L.
Subramanian, Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa and Corporation Commissioner
Kiran Gurrala inspected the canteen. N. Mohan, Dean, GRH, and A.
Pragadeeswaran, Resident Medical Officer, took them around and explained
the facilities in place to run the canteen.
According to City Health Officer V. Yasodha Mani, 2,400 idlis will be prepared in the morning to serve around 600 persons.
For
lunch, sambar rice would be prepared for 600 persons, and curd rice for
300 persons, she said. While each idli would be priced at one rupee,
sambar rice would cost Rs.5 and curd rice Rs.3. Parcels would not be
given. Drinking water would be supplied using two reverse osmosis (R.O.)
plants, she said.
It will be opened on a date to be announced by the government.
