Gur Mandi shopkeepers give memorandum to civic body
Four days after the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation cancelled its
demolition drive in Gur Mandi following resistance from shopkeepers and
temple authorities, a memorandum was submitted to the civic authorities
on Monday.
The shopkeepers led by Mahavir Mandir Trust members held a
protest from from Gur Mandi to Girja Ghar Chowk. The protest ended at MC
Zone A office where they submitted their memorandum to zonal
commissioner Sumit Jarangal.
Pawan Sharma, president, Mahavir Mandir Trust, said, “Since 1947,
our temple has been there. After some years, we made some shops from
the temple area. No one from MC sent any notices to us saying that shops
are illegal, and now they come here with 200 policemen to demolish our
shops. This is no way to go about, and we would like to make it clear it
that the temple trust is the owner of those shops. MC should coordinate
with us. Zonal commissioner has assured us of a congenial way out.
Meeting of both sides will be called soon.”
