Gurgaon RWAs protest lack of civic amenities
Staff Reporter | Gurgaon
Hundreds of Gurgaon residents on Monday protested against the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation (GMC) for the lack of civic amenities in the city. The residents vandalised the GMC office and raised slogans against the civic agency. The police had to be deployed at the office to restrict the locals from entering the office and deal with any untoward incidents.
The demonstration was led by the ‘The Joint Action Forum of Residents’ Association’ (JAFRA) seeking proper electricity supply and potable water. The alleged the drains were not properly maintained. The forum was demanding better facilities and services from the GMC. Colonel Ratan Singh, president of JAFRA, said “From water-logged roads to submerged houses to overflowing drains, Gurgaon residents have experienced all sorts of monsoon-related problem.”
“The sewer system has collapsed and sewage water has entered into our houses. We are afraid water-related diseases may affect people in our locality,” they alleged.
On other hand, GMC Commissioner Rajesh Khullar said, “The protests are politically motivated as they are aware that soon there will be municipal corporation election. None of them have ever given me any memorandum to address their problems.” It may be noted that the incessant rain in the city have affected the normal life. Waterlogging, long hours of power cuts and never-ending traffic jams in the city have brought the normal life to a standstill. Rainwater has reportedly entered the several offices and residential areas creating troubles for the residents.
