GVMC gears up to meet water crisis
Rs.5.54-crore contingency plan prepared
Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation has taken some initiatives to meet
the likely drinking water crisis in the city during coming summer
season and has ensured that current levels of supply was maintained.
The Water Supply Department has prepared a Rs.5.54-crore
contingency action plan for meet the need, which includes augmenting 24
additional tankers to supply in the colonies on hill slopes and
outskirts that were not covered under piped water supply. This
initiative would be taken up with an investment of Rs.167.52 lakh,
buying three motors with Rs.20 lakh, purchase of other equipment with
Rs.61 lakh.
Network of pipelines would be increased investing
Rs.18.54 lakh, new sluice valves acquired with Rs.26.70 lakh and another
53 works would be taken up with Rs.380.91 lakh.
Some of the recent measures included include getting the
repairs on Yeleru Reservoir, 150 k.m. pipeline of Visakha Industrial
Water Supply Company (VISCO) with an investment of Rs.8.5 crore out of
which Rs.4 crore borne by the GVMC. Another Rs.1.5 crore was spent on
repair and operating the 60-km. Raiwada pipeline, which would bring 9
MGD and due the first initiative 14 MGD. In addition to these another 4
MGD would be received soon owing to repairs taken up on Thatipudi
pipeline.
Borewells
Hand bores in 50 new localities would be established in
Visakhapatnam East constituency spending Rs.34.95 lakh, two additional
sources created with an investment of Rs.4.60 lakh. Network of pipeline
would be expanded in Visakha – West with an investment of Rs.6.94 lakh,
hand bores drilled spending Rs.15.60 lakh in 24 localities.
Similar works would be taken up in all the constituencies from April first week once the tendering process was completed.
On Monday the GVMC received 25 complaints at the Grievance Day.
