GVMC to install gensets for water supply
With power not being available for pumping and treating
of water following a strike by Electricity employees, GVMC is going in
for installation of generator sets to maintain water supply.
On Monday, 28 mgd, only 50 per cent of the regular supply of 56 mgd of which 40 mgd was for domestic supply, was made.
Municipal Commissioner M. V. Satyanarayana held discussions with officials on setting up the generators.
At
Kanithi balancing reservoir that supplies water from Yeleru canal, 250
KvA and 125 KvA generators will be installed. At the PWD pump house that
supplies Raiwada water 500 KvA and 125 KvA generators, 250 KvA
generator at Natayyapalem to pump Meghadrigedda water, 1000 KvA
generator at Tatipudi pumping station, 500 KvA one at Boni to pump
Gosthani water and 500 KvA generator at Town Service Reservoir would be
installed. To meet the power needs at smaller pumping stations, 12
generators of 125 KvA capacity and 16 of 65 KvA capacity will be
installed.
Since a 1,000 KvA generator is available
at Vizianagaram, in spite of curfew in force there, the District
Collector and the Superintendent of Police were contacted and it was
being transported here. The 500 KvA generator at Swarna Bharati stadium
was being transported to the PWD Pumping station.
Officials
say that even on Tuesday supply might be erratic with installation of
generators still going on to facilitate a supply of 25 mgd. By Wednesday
the supply could stabilise.
