Haryana Urban Development Authority plans to improve Behrampur Sewage Treatment Plant efficiency

With HUDA planning to supply treated sewage water for construction in
the city, the private operator of Behrampur Sewage Treatment Plant ( STP) has been asked to expedite the process.Senior HUDA officials would be meeting the contractor to sort out the
differences and draw a roadmap to improve efficiency of the plant. The
firm will be asked to upgrade the equipment at the plant. After the
recent high court order to ban use of groundwater at construction sites,
HUDA decided to supply treated sewage for construction activities.

HUDA decided to supply treated sewage for construction activities.
In the next meeting, the firm will be asked to expedite the cleaning
work and expand the treated water generation facilities, said a HUDA
official. So farm the plant has been underperforming and several
operational irregularities have been found during audits and inspection
by various government agencies.OI had done a series %of news
reports on the operational inefficiencies in the plant, which has a
capacity of 60 MLD.
The plant operator was issued notices by %the
state’s environment watchdog, Haryana State Pollution Control Board
(HSPCB), over the poor maintenance. The HSPCB had taken samples from the
plants. The laboratory results confirmed poor quality of effluent
treatment.
