HC asks AMC act on fire-safety NOC applications
court on Monday asked the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to act on all
applications requesting grant of NOC to high-rise buildings, with regard to installation of fire safety systems.
The bench of Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B
Pardiwala also asked those occupiers of high-rise buildings, who want
extensions in the time period to install fire safety systems, to make
applications within a week’s time.
Meanwhile, the court asked
the AMC to act according to the law against 17 buildings to whom the
civic body had issued notices for their failure in installing fire
safety systems.
Meanwhile, the state government placed before the court the draft bill of its proposed fire safety laws.
The court has fixed April 9 for further hearing on this issue, and by
then the AMC has been asked to dispose off all applications seeking NOCs
for high-rise buildings, after the chief fire officer’s inspection of
the systems installed. The PIL for directions to equip high rises with
fire safety systems was filed by advocate Amit Panchal for
implementation of earlier HC directions.
