Kolkata: The Calcutta high court on Thursday directed Outram Club to demolish some of the construction on its premises on the ground that these were constructed illegally. These portions include the club’s ladies’ restroom, staff quarters, pantry and bar. These were declared “unauthorized construction” on May 8, 2003, by the special officer (buildings) of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Stating that the KMC buildings department and KMC’s special officer (buildings) had the same view on the unauthorized construction, the court held that by building these unauthorized portions, the club was guilty of gross violation of the law.
