HC pulls up BBMP commissioner
Bangalore, Aug 11, DHNS
The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday pulled up Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner for promoting erring Assistant Executive Engineers (AEE) instead of reprimanding them for violating building bye-laws.
Hearing a petition filed by Syed Arifulla Habibu, Justice Rammohan Reddy observed that instead of taking action against the two AEEs, B V Satish and R V Govindaraju, the BBMP had promoted them.
Despite the Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department indicting both the engineers for violating provisions of building bye-laws, Satish was promoted as in-charge chief engineer at the BBMP.
Justice Reddy said he failed to understand the actions of the Palike for promoting the erring AEE Satish.
Dereliction of duty
“He was indicted by the government for dereliction of duties. This shows the reprehensive behaviour of the chief executive officer of BBMP,” he observed.
In an earlier hearing, the court had found that the two engineers had permitted the construction of a commercial building in a residential area.
