Heated arguments take place at BMC meetSR | Bhopal
Heated arguments were witnessed at the meeting of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday, as the Congress majority council tried to corner the BJP controlled Mayor in Council over a number of issues.
Both BJP and the Congress sides attempted to corner the other by raising national issues like remarks of former RSS chief KS Sudarshan and the 2G spectrum scam.
The Corporators on a number of occasions rushed into the well, demanding Speaker Kailash Mishra to issue an assurance over their demands.
A demand for discussing the water supply situation and the paralysed sanitation system was raised most prominently by the Congress Corporators, apart from fixing accountability of officials in case of delay in tender processes.
The issue that witnessed uproar during the question and answer session included a query from Congress Corporator Mahira Salamuddin, who wanted to know the names of leaders at whose behest developmental work is being carried out in the city. Alleging that the Civil Department of the Corporation is working on directives of Ministers in the State Government, ruling party MLAs and other local leaders, the Corporator charged the BMC administration of not mentioning the names of such leaders in the files.
The Opposition said that a ward Corporator is not even informed prior to carrying out any work in his or her respective area.
Earlier, Arif Aqueel camp follower and Congress Corporator Shafique tore the agenda of the general council for not including his question in the question and answers session.
While another Corporator of opposition side, Samar Huzur charged the BJP-led MiC of taking credit of central funded projects like Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
Question regarding tender of the Navbahar Sabzi Mandi and financial loss suffered by the Corporation due to delays in the process was also raised during the meet.
Over the availability of water, MiC member Ashok Pandey told the council that 70 MGD water is supplied to the city every day and the same would continue till August next year even if the water level in the current supply sources does not increase.
Addressing the sanitation issue, Mayor Krishna Gaur asked the Corporators to monitor the workers in their respective wards.
The allegation of Congress that sanitary workers are preoccupied in the BJP conclave slated on November 29 was rebuffed by the BJP.
Some Corporators also raised the long pending issue of regularising the 89-day contract workers of the BMC.
