High Court notice to MCC

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notices to the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) and others on a petition by a firm challenging the action of the civic agency in cancelling the tender awarded to it for disposing sold waste.
The petitioner, Swatchatha Corporation, said it was into the business of waste disposal. It said it had been awarded contracts for disposing municipal waste in Ambattur, Salem, Gwalior, Bangalore and other cities. It said in April 2010, the MCC had called for tenders to dispose garbage in three wards — 4, 5 and 9. It said it had applied for the tender. Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Gwalior decided to cancel the tender it had awarded to Swatchatha.
Swatchatha said it had moved the High Court of Madhya Pradesh against what it termed illegal and arbitrary action of the Gwalior municipality. Even as this matter was pending in the High Court, the MCC decided to cancel the tender awarded to it.
Swatchatha challenged the action of the MCC and urged the High Court to stay it. Justice Ashok Hinchigeri ordered issue of notices and adjourned further hearing of the case.
