HMDA to check mosque damageHyderabad, Aug. 18: The HMDA’s Heritage Conservation Committee has decided to inspect the Spanish Mosque at Begumpet which developed cracks after an illegal blast. The committee will decide if the GHMC should withdraw the permission given to the building being constructed adjacent to the heritage site.
The committee member secretary, Mr A.V. Bhide, said, “I have to talk to the chairman of the committee and call for a meeting in which we will decide on the course of action regarding the Spanish Mosque incident. We have to assess the damage done to the structure,”
The Muthawali committee of the mosque, meanwhile, met the HMDA authorities and submitted their complaint on Wednesday. Mr Faiz Khan of the committee said, “We have taken up the issue with the HMDA officials and they have promised to look into the matter. Several heritage activists and prominent personalities visited the mosque on Wednesday and expressed concern over the incident. We are also going to take up the issue with the GHMC and the police commissioner,”
Intach Hyderabad chapter convener, Ms Anuradha Reddy, who inspected the mosque on Wednesday said, “Before April this year, I had visited the mosque with other Intach members. Now I see several new cracks.”
She said the Intach will also seek expert opinion.
