Hold special BBMP council meeting: Gunashekar
A special meeting of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara
Palike (BBMP) council must be held to discuss problems caused by
traffic, the state of public toilets and the need for more parking lots
in the city, said Opposition Leader M.K. Gunashekar.
In
a press release here on Thursday, he said traffic volume had increased
exponentially over the past few years. Though the government announced
that 200 roads would be widened, only around 20 had been done. The
palike had also not tackled parking problems in the city. He said the
government had not released the Rs. 200 crore that was sanctioned by the
13th Finance Commission to the BBMP. These funds were to be used
specifically to construct parking lots. “The funds will lapse if they
are not utilised in the same financial year. The government and BBMP
have also failed in getting funds under various schemes from the
Centre,” he added.
