Hubli Mayor wants meets to keep councillors in the loop
‘We’re not informed about ongoing development work’
Mayor Poorna Patil has instructed Hubli-Dharwad
Municipal Corporation Commissioner K.V. Trilok Chandra to hold monthly
meetings to brief councillors about the progress of various development
projects.
This comes after complaints by councillors that they were not properly informed about ongoing development work.
Discussion
A
lengthy discussion was held on Tuesday, on a calling attention notice
moved by floor leader Veeranna Savadi on work taken up on the
underground drainage system and sewage treatment plant in the twin
cities. Mr. Savadi wanted to know at what stage work on the two projects
was and the time required for completion.
Although
‘bhoomi puja’ for the projects was done in April and May, there was
still no clear information of the status of the projects, he claimed.
He
blamed the officials of the Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development
and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), who are responsible for the work, for
not ensuring its timely implementation.
The KUIDFC assistant engineer told the meeting that 58.32 km of pipeline was being laid underground.
The underground drainage system project was to be completed in 18 months; half of it was completed, he said.
The contractor had been fined Rs. 10 lakh for the delay in executing the work, he added.
Bharatiya Janata Party councillor Bharati Patil sought information about the proposed sewage treatment plant at Dharwad.
Dr. Chandra said that the technical bid for the sewage treatment plant at Madihal in Dharwad would be opened in December.
He suggested that the Mayor conduct ward-wise review meetings on ongoing work.
Janata
Dal (Secular) councillor Altaf Kittur wanted to know the status of the
Rs. 9.5 crore worth of proposed projects for improving the underground
drainage system in the Old Hubli area.
Dr. Chandra
replied that the Hubli-Dharwad City Municipal Corporation had sent a
proposal to the KUIDFC, asking them to take up the work on providing
lateral entries to the system.
