High Court has
quashed PIL against work in Madikeri
The long
pending demand of the residents of Madikeri to have a private bus shelter will
be realised soon. The work on the bus shelter will be taken up at the earliest.
With the High Court quashing the PIL filed by an individual against the
construction of the private bus shelter in the identified land, the process for
the construction of the bus shelter has begun.
The present private bus shelter situated in the heart of the city is highly
congested. With the increase in number of vehicles, there is no enough space
for the parking of the buses.
A full-fledged bus shelter will come up on three acre land belonging to
Agriculture University, Bangalore, on Race Course road.
The Agriculture University had handed over its land to the district
administration in 2009 itself. Later, the district administration handed over
the land to the CMC to take up the work. However, a PIL filed in 2010 delayed
the construction of bus shelter. Now, the High Court has quashed the PIL.
DPR ready
The CMC had prepared a detailed project report of the bus shelter in 2009. The
estimated cost of the project was Rs 7.85 lakh.
The bus shelter will have a hotel, lodge, hall. The work on the shelter will be
taken up on BOT basis. The private company will be given contract for 25 years
to maintain the bus shelter.
The tender will be invited shortly, said City Muncipal Council Commissioner
Shashikumar.
