Hyderabad gets ‘clean city’ award
The award will be presented by Union minister for finance, Pranab Mukherjee to the mayor Banda Karthika Reddy during the national conference on JNNURM on December 3 in New Delhi. The award carries a trophy and cash award.
The mayor told reporters that the GHMC was selected for the award for compliance to Municipal Solid waste (MSW) Rules, 2000 as it had decided to implement the integrated Solid Waste Management project.
The project comprised of primary and secondary collection, transportation to transfer stations, development of new stations, operation and maintenance, transportation to designated disposal facilities, development of four integrated waste management facilities and reclamation and re-use of existing sites.
GHMC has made efforts to possess government lands for dumping yards.
The government then ordered for 723 acres of land in Malkapur village in Nalgonda district. Monitoring dumper bins and attendance management through mobile technology is one novel initiative. Through this, 1,005 bins and 2,384 workers are monitored daily.
It will be extended to all circles by end-December.
