In a first, 3 of the 5 main civic panels to be headed by women
For the first time in the history of Pune Municipal Corporation
(PMC), three of the five main committees of the civic body will be
headed by women representatives in addition to the post of Mayor held by
Vaishali Bankar.
In the elections held for chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of
various committees on Monday, the ruling NCP-Congress alliance managed
to get their representatives elected to various posts leaving the
Opposition, led by MNS, Shiv Sena and BJP, nothing to cheer about.
NCP corporator Suman Pathare was elected as the chairperson of
the legal committee while Congress corporator Lata Rajguru will be
heading the city improvement committee. Congress corporator Vaishali
Marathe will be the chairperson of the women and child welfare committee
while Anil Tingre of NCP will head the sports committee.
In the elections held last month, NCP corporator Vishal Tambe was appointed as the chairperson of the standing committee.
The post of vice-chairperson for legal committee was bagged by
Sudhir Janjot of Congress while Sushma Nimhan of NCP won the seat for
city improvement committee. Sharda Orase of NCP will be the
vice-chairperson for women and child welfare committee while Mukari
Algude of Congress for sports committee.
The number of women corporators also went up in the PMC with 77
women corporators getting elected to the civic body as against 75 men.
