VMC looking for donors

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is seeking assistance from philanthropists for creating infrastructure and developing of the municipal schools in the city. The Corporation is also looking for patrons to donate notebooks required for students studying in its schools. And, for this VMC has taken up ‘Badi Nirmiddam' programme in the city.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu said that they have listed out the infrastructure requirements like benches and chairs for 105 schools run by the VMC. The Corporation required more than 3,900 tables, chairs and benches for the said schools.

The name of the philanthropists would be displayed prominently in the schools, he said, adding, the donors would be made as members of the school development committee.

Stating that most of the students were poorest of the poor and cannot afford to purchase notebooks, Mr. Ravi Babu said that nearly one lakh notebooks were required for the students.

The VMC was also laying emphasis on school uniform with a view to inculcate discipline and sense of oneness. The students required more than 15,500 uniforms along with shoes, school bags, and water bottles, he said.

The Commissioner said that the Corporation was planning to start e-learning centres in each circle for the benefit of the VMC school students.

DSMC High School in Cirlce-I, and MK Baig School in Circle-II, and CVR High School in Circle-III would be e-learning centres for schools in their respective Circles, he said.
