Educational institutions must seek VUDA approval for

construction

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Educational institutions coming up or functioning in the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region (VMR) comprising Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam and East Godavari districts must obtain approval for their construction.

The managements of the institutions must fulfil the statutory obligation under the provisions of the AP Urban Areas (Development) Act 1975 within 15 days, VUDA Vice-Chairman B. Sreedhar said on Monday. Obtaining approvals is mandatory for colleges of engineering, medicine, education and pharmacy, schools and nursing schools, junior and degree colleges and other campuses.

Stringent action will be initiated against failure to obtain permission, besides informing the agencies concerned such as AP State Council of Higher Education, AICTE, Medical Council of India and universities and higher bodies, to which the institutions are affiliated, to cancel the recognition and affiliations, he warned. Notices have already been issued to this effect to all the identified institutions and officials asked to take up thorough inspection.

Mr. Sreedhar said construction activities by education institutions and societies are treated as unauthorised since they are leading to violation of the provisions of the Master Plan for VMR hindering planned development.

Since VUDA deals with the land use pattern, development of transport connectivity, identification of growth centre and most importantly, determining the expansion of development regions preserving the natural resources, it is very essential to record every inch of development taking place in its jurisdiction.
