VTU to establish urban studies centre at B’lore

Belgaum, August 19, DH News Service :

Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Vice-Chancellor Prof H Maheshappa said the varsity will establish Centre for Urban Development and Infrastructure Studies at Bangalore with financial assistance of Rs five crore from State government.

In his presidential remarks at the meeting of principals of all the engineering colleges affiliated to VTU here on Wednesday, Maheshappa said VTU planned to organise national and international conferences at Belgaum. He explained various programmes, such as recruitment of academic and administrative staff, to encourage placement activities for rural engineering students, to encourage research and development culture in all the affiliated colleges, to print and to distribute the biography on Sir M Visvesvaraya, on the eve of his 150th birth anniversary celebrations to all colleges and schools.

VTU will start centres of excellence in collaboration with industries and VTU constituent engineering colleges. It will provide training to new faculty members in all affiliated colleges and these activities will be accomplished during the next three years, he stated. Prof Maheshappa announced that VTU Regional Centre at Mysore will be inaugurated on  September 15 and also it has proposed to inaugurate the VTU Regional Centre at Gulbarga during the first week of October.
