Action plan for Finance Panel funds ready

VISAKHAPATNAM: Action plan for the works to be taken up with the funds of the 13 {+t} {+h} Finance Commission has been prepared and will be placed before the corporation general body meeting on September 18, Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu has said.

At an awareness meeting on the works on Wednesday, he said the action plan prepared accounted for Rs.206 crore. In the first year GVMC was likely to get Rs.145 crore. For the first time development of school buildings was included.

Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao said funds should be allocated for urban forestry and development of parks and the suggestions of corporators should be taken into consideration.Executive Engineer K.V.N. Ravi explained the construction of foot over bridges and bus shelters would be taken up on ‘build-own-operate-transfer' basis.

Bus Shelters

While 50 bus shelters and 13 FOBs including seven lifts would be taken up on the Pendurti corridor, 28 shelters, six FOBs including three lifts would be constructed on the Simhachalam corridor. Hoardings and ATMs on them would bring revenue.

User charges

Chief Medical Officer (Health) D. Abbulu said the ‘dustbin-free' garbage collection programme would be implemented in 36 wards by March 2011 charging a minimum of Rs.15 and a maximum of Rs.30.Congress, TDP, CPI-M and CPI floor leaders Behera Bhaskara Rao, Ch.V. Pattabhiram, Botta Eswaramma and A.J. Stalin participated.
