MCD sends RTE plan to Govt for approval

Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The MCD on Tuesday said it has prepared a new plan for better implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in its schools, suggesting their elevation from primary to middle (level) and proposing to make them co-educational. The proposal has been forwarded to the Delhi Government for approval, said chairman of MCD Education Committee Mahinder Nagpal.

“The plan includes improvement in the standard of education, extension of education from primary to middle (level), arrangements for education to mentally and physically challenged children, doing away with double-shift system, co-education and common school timings for all schools,” he said.

Nagpal said under the new scheme, construction of 40 new additional school buildings, provision of drinking water, library, computer lab and improved furniture in each and every school will be made. To implement the plan, additional funds of `1,600 crore have also been demanded.

“The bio-metric system of attendance will be introduced in MCD schools to ensure presence of teachers. Year-wise career record of school children will also be maintained,” he said.

Nagpal said, the implementation of the plan will start as soon as the approval and funds from Delhi Government are received.
