Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to rope in women self-help groups for getting uniforms stitched for its schools.

In a proposal tabled before the standing committee, the civic administration has asked for Rs 10.5 lakh to be set aside for ‘Pragati Mahila Udyogik Sahakari Sanstha’ for stitching the uniforms. The SHGs will charge Rs 73 for half-pant and shirt, Rs 115 for full-pant and half-shirt, Rs 63 for salwar kameez along with other clothes, said a press note from the PMC.

Irregularities in the purchase of school uniforms and other school material had forced the PMC to give demand drafts or cheques to children of the civic schools for purchasing uniforms on their own.
