Municipal corporation schools excel in SSC

A total of 61 got above 500 marks in SSC this year compared 54 last year

RAJAHMUNDRY: While East Godavari district has taken back seat in SSC results, Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation schools scored well among the other schools in the district. “We feel proud as three of our students crossed 555 marks out of 1000 in SSC. Except corporate schools, we have done well than other government schools in the district,” claimed Manik Raj, IAS, Municipal Commissioner of RMC.

P.V.V. Satyanarayana Murthy, Schools Supervisor of RMC, said that ten schools which secured 500 and above marks out of which 26 were boys and 35, girls. A total of 61 got above 500 marks in SSC this year compared 54 last year (2009-10) and 27 in 2008-09. According to him, Kavala Giri Prakash of Lalacheruvu MCHS got 561 marks, Chollangi Pavani of same school got 560 marks and Yerra Suryanarayana of City Municipal Corporation High School got 556 marks.

Intensive coaching from two months before the examinations, special classes for those students who were lagging in studies and special subject teachers efforts -- all put together had given good results in SSC,”- said N.V. Shivaji, Additional Commissioner, MCR.

The District Education Officer also admitted that the government school performance was not better than last year. However, the DEO said that they are not poor in SSC but comparatively some what less than last year.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Narayanasetti Sekhar of CMR GVMC High School at Prakasaraopet who stood first in the SSC examination among students of corporation high schools created a record getting 562 marks. The previous highest mark was 554. Sekhar's father runs a ‘pan' shop. Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao and Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu congratulated him.

However, the SSC pass percentage in the corporation high schools at 67.53 was lower than last year's 69.1. While 1,463 students from 17 schools appeared at the examination, 988 passed.

Of the 939 girls, 589 were successful with a pass percentage of 62.73. MGM High School with 96.67 per cent topped while the K Colony High School at Port Quarters, Kancharapalem, recorded the lowest (47.83).

Last year, 49 students scored more than 500 marks in the grading system this year 33 got A1 grade scoring between 509 to 600 marks. List of A2 grade (470-508 marks) is not available yet and it may have some who scored more than 500.

 Pune: Education : Running without permission, says civic body; asks citizens to not send children there

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday declared 18 primary schools in its jurisdiction as “illegal” for running without permission, and appealed citizens not to admit their children in these schools.

There are few schools that are running without any valid permission, the PMC education department said in a press statement.

“The PMC education department will not be responsible if the students take admission in the illegal schools and later pay through academic loss,” it said.

These illegal schools include eight of Marathi medium, six of English medium, two of Urdu medium, one of Kannada medium and one of both English and Marathi medium.

The citizens should not admit their students in these schools, it added. Incidentally, most of these schools are in suburban area of the city.

The list of school includes Sant Gadhge Maharaj Primary School, Ankur Vidyalaya, Harinandan Primary School, Fakkadrao Thorve School, Pant School, Sharda Primary School, Bharatratna Marathi Medium School, Dnyanprasarak Vidya Mandir, Sriram Hanuman Mandal Pathshala, Mariambi Urdu School, Fauzul Ulum

Primary School, Raghavdas Primary School, Pragati Engish School, Dnyanprabodhini Primary School in Hadapsar, Utkarsh Primary School, India Naz English Medium School, Wheelsad Primary School and Abundant Life School.
