Now, get SMS alerts on tax dues
SURAT: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started SMS services to give information to the citizens on their tax dues and about the status of their complaints. This service was initiated on September 4. The required software for the service has been developed by the civic body.
A SMC official said the civic body started the m-governance service on an experimental basis by providing vaccination alerts to the citizens. Along with registration of the newborn, under the service the infant's parents were given alerts 24 hours in advance about the vaccines the child should have.
"Now, we have extended our scope of services. Citizens will be able to know their annual property tax amount, its due date, details of the taxpayers including his name and other information, status of the application for change in name on the tax payers roll, amount due towards professional tax and even the status of their complaints," the official said. He added, "This is one more step towards fulfilling our promise to the citizens. We have adopted a slogan of the city that cares."
