Civic body launches complaint redressal system to address water issues

The Pune Municipal Corporation administration has launched a computerised complaint redressal system to address citizens' water-related issues within 24 hours.

"There is a lot of confusion among citizens over filing water-related complaints. There is also no mechanism to monitor the response of the concerned staff on the complaints filed by citizens," said V G Kulkarni, superintending engineer, PMC water department.

He said the new system will ease the process of filing complaints and help seniors monitor civic staff response to complaints. "The complaint will automatically be directed to the concerned staff of the area and the senior officers. This will speed up the process of resolving complaints," said Kulkarni, adding, the effective use of the system will help civic administration check wastage of water.

Citizens can file complaints on misuse of water, leakages, illegal connections, contamination, low pressure, no water and can put in request for tankers.

Kulkarni said, If need be, the civic staff will not disclose the name of complainant reporting misuse of water or illegal connection.

"The system can be operated in three ways," he said.

Kulkarni said citizens can log on to pws.punecorporation.org to register their complaint while mentioning their location and contact number. After the complaint is received by the concerned staff of the area, an acknowledgement message will be sent to the complainant on his mobile. The status of complaints can be monitored on the website.

Citizens can also register their complaint by calling on 25508171 and use the audio recording system to file the complaint. Also, the complaint can be registered through SMS on 8308895656 by typing "C...electoral panel number, complaint code, name and address.

Kulkarni said the routine complaint has to be addressed within 24 hours and if the problem is grave, the complainant will be informed about it.

Water refilling stations shut tomorrow

To ensure there is no misuse of water for celebrating Rangpanchmi and Dhulivandan festival, the civic administration has decided to shut water refilling station for tankers on Wednesday. "There are eight water refilling stations in the city. We have decided to close them on Wednesday except for the one in Ramtekdi to meet the drinking water demands of the area," said Kulkarni. He said the civic body allows refilling of 250 tankers a day. The rates of water tankers have also been increased from Rs 600 to Rs 850 for 10,000 litre capacity tanker, he said. The PCMC too has issued directives against providing water tankers on Wednesday. Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi said the step is aimed at ensuring there is no wastage of water.
