GHMC launches novel scheme for newborn babies

Special Correspondent

The GHMC has begun the free issue of digitised birth certificates direct to the homes of the newborns from Monday onwards.

The birth certificate to be sent by a private courier will also contain details of the vaccinations time-table for the baby for the next 16 years, said GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu on Monday.

He, along with Mayor Mohd. Majid Hussain, held a press conference to formally launch the service at the municipal corporation head office. They appealed to the parents to give correct names, addresses, email IDs and mobile numbers in the respective hospitals so that the birth certificate with digitised signatures of the medical officer/sub-register concerned can reach their homes.

A message will be sent to the mobile number of the parent alerting him/her about the vaccinations due till the 16{+t}{+h}year. Since most families take some time to decide on the name of the baby, the ‘provisional’ birth certificate will not specify any name unless indicated otherwise.

Therefore, Mr. Krishna Babu pointed out that the parents should remember to ensure the name is included in the birth certificate before the child joins a school.

It can be done by approaching the nearest Citizen Service Centres (CSCs) in the municipal circle offices or the MeeSeva centres.

The municipal corporation has online link up with about 101 hospitals so that birth records reach the respective circle offices daily.

Information from government hospitals and private nursing homes not having computers or Internet connections will be collected by the municipal staff at least twice a week.

The plan is to issue 300 certificates a day to homes.
