MCC seeks permission to cut 201 trees; objections called

Mysore, October 17, DHNS:

Threat looms large over 201 trees in the city as forest department has called for objections from general public, following request by the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) to cut them for taking up widening of roads in the city.

The MCC has proposed to take up widening of several roads in the city for which the roadside trees are coming in the way.

So, it has submitted application to the deputy conservator of forests, Mysore Division, seeking permission to cut the trees. The forest department, in turn has called for objections, if any, from the citizens for cutting the trees, before giving permission. The people are free to file objections within 20 days from today.

Approval

In case of no objections, it would be treated as approval for the proposal and the MCC would be allowed to axe the trees.

The MCC wants to cut four trees in front of Mysore zoo, one near Hotel Refreshment near Zoo, 27 trees on the right side of Hardinge circle up to Vasanth Mahal road, one tree near Karanji lake bridge, two trees on left side of Rana Prathap Singh Circle, five trees near Dairy Circle, one tree near Sangolli Rayanna circle, 28 trees on left to Haramarga near Siddharthanagar and 24 trees on the right side the road. The maximum number of trees are 99 from Vani Vilas Road to Somasundaram Circle and nine trees on Narayana Shastri road.

It may be mentioned here that a large number of trees were axed by the MCC for widening of roads and footpaths in the city.
