Dasara: Plans to enhance Mysore's green look

Come Dasara, Mysore will be transformed into a tinsel world with the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) charting out a series of plans to enhance the beauty of the City of Palaces.

The MCC has started the exercise on improving the greenery of the existing parks, besides repairing and illuminating select parks and buildings with temporary lighting arrangements, at an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh.

According to MCC Commissioner P G Ramesh, it has been decided to enhance the beauty of 14 parks on Mysore-Bangalore road alone, besides Milad Bagh Park on Ashoka Road, Tilak Nagar Park, Putthali Park, parks on either side of Amba Vilas Palace, Basaveshwara Park, Dr Rajkumar Park, Kuppanna Park, Gandhivana Park, Cheluvamba Park, Javare Gowda Park, Mysore Anantha Swamy Park, park at MCC and other localities.

Short-term plants such as  ‘Antarenum’, ‘Felocia’, ‘Marigold’, ‘Alalyssum’, ‘China Aster’, ‘Gillaradya’ and  others, to name a few among several species, will be raised at these parks. Exclusive nursery beds will be created at the parks, to nurture the saplings before planting the same.

Apart from this, same species of potted plants will be arranged at select traffic islands, giving thrust to the circles on jamboo savari route -- Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle, K R 
Circle, Fountain Circle and Millenium Circle (LIC).

Besides, parks located in the heart of the city such as Hardinge Circle, Ramaswamy, Five Lights, Basaveshwara, Dr B R Ambedkar, Mahaveer and Mahatma Gandhi among others will also be decorated with potted plants.

The parks identified for renovation works and painting are: parks on Mysore-Bangalore road, Banni Mantap, Taluk Office road, Milad Park, Tilak Nagar, Putthali, Rose Garden, CFTRI, Curzon Park-III, Siddiqui Nagar, Kuppanna Garden, Siddappaji, Veerangere among others.

Similar works will be taken up at Thathaiah Park (opposite KSRTC city bus stand), Dr Rajkumar Park, Freedom Fighter’s Memorial Park, Gandhi Vana Park, Al Kabir School, Kantharaja Park, Cheluvamba Park, Javare Gowda Park, Salumarada Thimmakka Park and others. Besides, main roads in the city like, Purandara Dasa, Palace, Bangalore-Nilgiri, Albert Victor, Sayyaji Rao and Irwin will be re-asphalted.
