BMC organises essay contest on environment conservation

To maintain the cleanliness in the city and to conserve the environment, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is taking various steps. Through organising different events the BMC is spreading awareness about the harmful effects of polythene.

Under the same series BMC is organising various activities to spread awareness among the common people. Similarly, BMC organised an Essay Writing Competition for school students here on Monday. The topic for the competition was ‘Save Environment – Say No to Polythene’ on which the students wrote an essay. As many as 100 students from various schools of the city participated in the competition.

On the occasion, BMC Commissioner Vishesh Garhpale encouraged the students and asked them to create awareness about the same in their surroundings.

The students expressed their view point about saving the environment using the creative skills at their best. The students very minutely presented their perceptions towards the use of polythene. Some reflected the disadvantages of polythene and some students wonderfully expressed about the harmful effects of polythene over atmosphere and social life.

The best essays in English and Hindi would receive an award and also the other participants would receive participation certificates and mementos. The participants would also be included in the Environment Conservation Workshop. The students would learn about pollution, environment, and no-use of polythene in the workshop.

To keep and maintain the cleanliness and hygiene in the city, BMC squad is cautioning the shopkeepers who sell the stuff in polythene less than 40 microns. Notably, the BMC squad is continuously taking the action against the street vendors to stop the use of polythene.

Implementing the instructions by the National Green Tribunal, the BMC squad is taking stern action in various areas of the city.

The BMC squad has appealed the citizens not to use the polythene as they are greatly harmful for the environment. It is suggested to the citizens to carry a handbag or a cloth bag along with them when they go to buy anything from the market. Moreover, the citizens have been appealed to contribute in the various development works being carried out by the BMC.

During the occasion, City engineer AK Nanda and other BMC officials were present.
