BBMP budget to be tabled today

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will table its budget on Monday, with an estimated record outlay of Rs 7,000 crore, against Rs 4,238 crore outlay in the previous year and the debate over it will start on September 2.

Several multi-storeyed parking spaces, four to five hi-tech hospitals, development of new wards, concreting of existing roads through white-topping technology are all said to be announced on a priority basis in the Budget.

The Palike is expected to increase the aid for the development of new wards to one-and-a-half times more than what is allocated for the existing wards.

A free scanning facility is also to expected to be set up at the Palike's maternity hospitals, new hospitals are also said to feature in the list of major announcements.

The ruling BJP in the Palike was drawing flak from all quarters for not presenting the budget. Lack of funds was reportedly preventing the party from coming out with the budget.

Further, announcements pertaining to sops for people residing in low-lying areas of the City, autorickshaw drivers, financially backward among others is expected to be announced too.

BBMP sources also pointed out that programmes and schemes have been designed to meet the requirements of people from all the categories in the City –– to make the budget popular among the citizens.

They added that the budget has been prepared to be in line with Mayor S K Nataraj’s promises during his election campaign.
