Rs 86,892 lakh budget placed at Koraput planning panel

The 8th District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting was held at Koraput under the chairmanship of Supplies Minister Sarada Prasad Nayak. A budget proposal of `86,892.16 lakh under the Biju KBK Yojana, MGNREG and Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) for the fiscal 1011-12 was placed before the committee for approval. The budget includes a provision of ` 71,869.16 lakh for the district level offices, `2,523.lakh under the BRGF and `100 lakh for the MGNREG. Accordingly, under the Biju KBK Yojana, an amount of `1,764.57 lakh has been kept for the State sector and `700 lakh for the district sectors.

Under the BRGF budget, 14 blocks and four ULBs of the district will be covered which include `173.02 lakh for Jeypore block, ` 219.94 lakh for Boriguma, `140.65 lakh for Kotpad, `159.01 for Bouipariguda, `102.45 lakh for Kumdra, `114.63 lakh for Koraput, `96.39 lakh for Semiliguda, `104.65 lakh for Pottangi, `141.72 lakh for Nandapur, `94.92 lakh for Lamtaput, `123.13 lakh for Dasamanthapur, `95.92 lakh for Laxmipur, ` 66.16 lakh for Narayanapatna and `86.79 lakh for Bandhugaon block respectively.

While an amount of ` 324.12 lakh is for Jeypore Municipality, `167.28 for Koraput NAC, `249.07 lakh for Sunabeda NAC and ` 63.10 lakh is for Kotpad NAC respectively under the BRGF budget.

A proposal of `18,892.16 lakh under different developmental schemes was also placed before the DPC chairman Nayak for approval. During the meeting, all the local MLAs expressed their concerns over implementation of the various developmental schemes in the district. Koraput MLA Rahgunath Podal alleged mismanagement of the `2-per-kg rice scheme in the district and of the health sector.

"We are ashamed to call ourselves MLAs of Koraput district for the worst condition of the NH-43 from Sunki to Chandili," stated Jeypore MLA Rabi Narayan Nanda and demanded drastic action against the National Highway authorities and the concerned contractors.

If the repair work of the NH-43 will not be completed after the rain, legal action will be initiated against the concerned authorities, said Collector Rajesh Prabhakar Patil. Among others, Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi, Laxmipur MLA Jhinna

Hikaka, Pottangi MLA Rama Chandra Kaddam, ZP President and vice-chairperson of DPC Ashok Kumar Pangi and PD DRDA Roopa Roshan Sahu were present.
