The Nashik municipal corporation which was formed in Nashik on November 7, 1982 has around 22 villages under its jurisdiction, as per the Development Plan in 1992. The villages- Adgaon, Makhmalabad, Mhasrul, Eklahare, Amabad, Satpur, Chehadi, Chunchale, Anandvalli, Gangapur, Dasak, Panchak, Manur, Vihitgaon and Pathardi were among 22 villages.

The population of NMC, which was around 4.5 lakh in 1982, has increased to 16 lakh till date. The growth in population necessitated the expansion of the city's boundary and make more land available for urban population.

Thereafter, the first Development plan (DP) was prepared for Nashik in 1992. The DP included the land needed to accommodate the increase in population. The ring roads and DP roads were planned, while sites were reserved for gardens, playgrounds, schools and other civic amenities.

However, the preparations for a new Development Plan for the city for the next 20 years have started and it is expected to be completed in the next two and a half years.

Water Board seeks Rs 2,000 crore in state budget

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has sought allocations to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore in the state Budget 2012-13.

The Water Board has prepared and submitted proposals to the municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) department to be incorporate in the Budget 2013-14 which will be introduced in the Assembly by state finance minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on March 18.

"The HMWS&SB has sought Rs 920 crore for implementing the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project (Maulana Abul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi Scheme) and Rs 250 crore for the Krishna Drinking Water Project Phase-III, nearly Rs 300 crore more than the allocation last year (2012-13)," an HMWS&SB official told TOI.

To improve the water supply network in Greater Hyderabad and peripheral areas, it has sent proposals to the tune of Rs 180 crore. "Though we have been spending crores of rupees through the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renew Mission (JNNURM), we are not getting the state government's share. We have asked the government to allot another Rs 222 crore in the proposed budget for implementing the sewerage master plan (SMP) in the city," he said.

To improve water supply network in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) jurisdiction, the Water Board has sought Rs 150 crore and another Rs 5 crore for remodeling existing sewerage network, the official added.

As part of plans to control pollution in the Musi, it has sought Rs 100 crore. "Though we have been sending proposals every year, the government allocates budget according to its priorities," a senior Water Board finance wing official said.
