Citizens' groups take on illegal stalls at Bandra Fair

MUMBAI: Citizens groups have taken pictures of illegal stalls at Bandra Fair. They have sent them to the municipal corporation and the police for requisite action.

Those residing near the fair venue pointed out that the BMC and police had prevented a large number of illegal stalls from coming up but more remains to be done as they continue to proliferate. According to residents, some stalls are cooking food in contravention of rules.

The BMC and police started a drive against unauthorised stalls at the fair site on Saturday and many stalls were prevented from coming up on Mount Mary Road.

The municipal move comes in the wake of a high court order, which allows only 165 stalls to be auctioned for the fair. Aftab Siddiqui of Linking Road Residents Association said, in some cases, the municipal squads had let illegal stalls remain and instead tried to prevent the setting up of stalls belonging to owners who had been given pitch licences.
