Ludhiana:  Expresses displeasure with sanitation and garbage dumping mechanism in city

A Vidhan Sabha committee today inspected various works of the civic body and expressed dissatisfaction with the sanitation problem and garbage dumping in various wards, said committee members.

The members today visited the Lakkar Bridge, which is a long pending project of municipal corporation. Sources said the authorities have sought two months’ time to complete the project.

The Buddha Nallah pollution was also studied. As per the members, effluents were being discharged in the nallah. The members said the MC sewer disposal was also draining in the nallah despite the installation of three sewerage treatment plants (STPs). The nallah is polluting river Sutlej which is further affecting many districts of the state, said a member. The members also visited the Rahon Road and studied the water logging problem.

Surjit Kumar Jayani, MLA, Fazilka, and head of this committee, said despite the recent construction of the road, the water logging problem persisted. Sources revealed that the MC has sought one month time to solve this problem. Lack of cleanliness in various parts was also visible and the dumping of garbage from the collection centre till the dump site was not as per the norms, observed the committee. The committee will be submitting its report on the development works before the Vidhan Sabha.
