BMC all set to remove illegal mobile towers

Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched special drive to remove illegal mobile towers on the instructions of Bhopal Division Commissioner Manoj Shrivastava. Four towers were removed on the first day of the drive on Tuesday.

Bhopal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Manish Singh instructed the BMC squad to remove all illegal mobile towers in the city. Telecom companies have erected about 317 towers in the city and 158 towers are unauthorised and have been put up without adhering to the prescribed norms.

Acting jointly on the BMC Commissioner's instructions, building permission department and anti-encroachment department of the BMC carried out a special drive in the city and removed towers of Reliance Infratel at Nariyalkheda, Machna Colony and Malviya Nagar. A tower of the Tata Infocom was also removed from Malviya Nagar. During the last one year, the BMC has removed a total of 23 towers. The drive against illegal towers would continue until all is removed, officials said.

BMC administration has also issued notices to Idea, Airtel, Tata Infocom, Tata Docomo, BSNL, Reliance and Vodafone companies to remove their illegal towers. If they fail to remove them, the BMC would remove them, officials warned.
