KADAPA: District Collector Shashi Bhushan inspected the ongoing underground drainage works in Housing Board Colony, Prakashnagar and Mrutyunjayakunta areas here and expressed dissatisfaction at the quality of works.

While inspecting sanitation and underground drainage works, he expressed discontent at leaving pits dug up for underground drainage works uncovered. He directed municipal officials to ensure that garbage did not pile up but cleared regularly and interacted with the local people. People complained that vagabonds were causing nuisance in and around Rajiv Park particularly in the evenings.

When the Collector asked Sanitary Inspector Ramana on the sanitary staff strength, the latter replied that 10 masons and 175 sanitary workers were on muster rolls in Kadapa and they included 75 women. Of them, 10 per cent were not attending to duties, the Sanitary Inspector complained.

Mr. Shashi Bhushar Kumar later inspected Mrutyunjayakunta and watched stagnant water-filled pits. He directed municipal officials to drain out stagnant water by deploying electric motors. The Collector expressed disenchantment at non-completion of even 40 per cent of underground drainage works commenced four years ago. He told officials to provide basic amenities to permanently pave way for rain and drain water from problematic areas under Rajiv Awas Yojana in 2011-12.

Municipal Commissioner D. John Samson, Public Health EE Mohan, DE Kesava Reddy, Municipal Health Officer Vinod Kumar and staff participated.
