Siddaiah inspects EWS quarters

BANGALORE: BBMP officials, including Commissioner Siddaiah, on Monday inspected the quarters of the economically weaker sections (EWS).

The residents of the EWS quarters have on many occasions complained about lack of sanitation and other basic amenities. Siddaiah and other officials inspected the facilities there. The officials also went on an inspection drive to Lingarajapuram.

The residents requested Siddaiah to allow them to build a school and a hospital on the surplus four to five acres of land in the area. Siddaiah gave his consent for the construction of the same.

Siddaiah directed deputy commissioner (estate) to survey the area. Also, he directed that a detailed project report be prepared for it.

Siddaiah said that they would decide whether to build a BBMP or a government school or hospital at the place.

Another issue was that of the 74 empty quarters that the housing board had offered to the BBMP.

BBMP had paid advance to buy them when Bharatlal Meena was the commissioner.

The BBMP officials on Monday said Rs 72 lakh had already been paid in this regard. They said that they needed Rs  90 lakh more to get the possession of the apartments.

They informed that the quarters would be allotted to the pourakarmikas and other employees working for the BBMP.

The officials said that the quarters were constructed on 15 acres of land, which used to be a lake bed. The housing board had constructed 674 houses there with the permission of the Bangalore Development Authority.

The officials said that the housing board had last year written a letter to the BBMP, requesting it to take over the maintenance of the houses.
