BBMP staff protest new proposal

BANGALORE: There is a cold war on between the regular employees of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and those on deputation.

A number of employees on deputation at the Palike are facing various allegations of corruption.

Sources said there was an attempt to absorb an assistant executive engineer, assistant engineer, junior engineer, first-grade clerks and second-grade clerks, all on deputation, into the BBMP.

The regular employees are opposing the government decision and have demanded that the BBMP Commissioner drop the proposal to absorb those employees on deputation.

The Central Association of BBMP Employees submitted a memorandum to Palike Commissioner Siddaiah in this regard recently.

Sources said a similar attempt was made a few years ago to absorb the employees on deputation, but the proposal was dropped when the Palike employees staged a dharna. Various courts have directed the Palike that services of employees on deputation should not be regularised.

The BBMP employees have asked the commissioner to send the employees on deputation who are facing corruption charges back to their parent institutions.
