Three guesthouses in Paharganj sealed

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed three guesthouses/hotels in Paharganj on Tuesday. The MCD team, assisted by the local police, arrived at the spot around 4 pm. The sealing action is likely to continue on Wednesday as well.Meanwhile, the Hotel Mahasangh, an organisation of hotels, which was to meet Deputy Commissioner of Sadar Zone Renu Jagdev on Tuesday to put in a request against the sealing drive, could not do so as they were not granted an appointment.
Arun Gupta, general secretary of the Mahasangh, told Newsline that two out of the three properties that were sealed — Ved Palace and Ved Hans — had sent their licence for renewal and their application had not been rejected so far. “The two properties belonged to one owner,” Gupta said. He added that the third, Hotel DRS in Dariba Pan, was functioning without a licence.
The MCD had issued showcause notices to the three hotels and 18 others on November 18, to provide details of the built-up structures within 48 hours. The three sealed on Tuesday, according to the MCD, did not have a sanction for the building and were not registered under the Special Area Provisions of Masterplan Delhi-2021. These properties were also not paying the conversion charges and did not have valid health licences.
