MCD seals bank branches, properties in South, Central Delhi

Taking stringent measures to discourage illegal constructions in its area, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday sealed 14 commercial units, including three banks, and demolished 11 properties in South and Central Delhi.

The Building Department of the Central Zone sealed the branches of three nationalised banks — Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and Axis Bank in Greater Kailash-I — for “misuse of properties and non-conformation to the Masterplan for Delhi-2021 and Building Bye-Laws, 1983”, the civic body said.

The agency has stepped up action after the Lalita Park collapse on November 15 that killed 70 people. The MCD also sealed 11 properties in Kalkaji and Giri Nagar areas, apart from demolishing portions of 11 properties.
